Hi Sebastian

Yes I have seen it - was hoping there would be a way to do it without having to spend $120 ...

I was hoping that DNN would have this type of functionality built in - apparently not it seems, which is a great pity for such a good CMS ... it seems to drop the ball on issues that are actually quite important (such as SEO).

There is also a free Friendly Url Provider available from ifinity.com.au - this does more than the standard provider but less than the Url Master module.  It has no user interface and must be configured and installed manually, but will give you simpler Urls and allow you to insert hyphens into the name.

You can get it here:http://www.ifinity.com.au/Products/Fr...

For the record, it's not as simple as just inserting hyphens into the name.  You've also got to support all the existing installations out there and provide a redirect framework so that the existing URLs will work as well.  Then there's the issue of all the various third-party modules.  The iFinity Friendly Url Provider (and Url Master) do this, but from the more luxurious standpoint that they are an option for DNN site owners, not a requirement.  You can always go back to the standard provider if you want/need.  But for the core team to change the standard provider, they have to ensure that they don't break any of the 3 or 4 different Url schemes that have existed in the history of DNN.  Take it from me, that's a substantial challenge, and the stakes are very high.

Hi Bruce

Thank you for taking the time to respond and guide me on this. It is most appreciated, as you have helped to solve my problem to a degree.

I understand that it is a bit more than just adding in the hyphens - I was simply trying to illustrate the point that this kind of thing should have been taken into account if you are going to even bother doing friendly urls at all.

I hope that it will be addressed in future versions of DNN, as it will help make it even better than it is.

I will download the free version and install today. Thanks again for the assistance :)

This is a pseudo-dilhemma, reminding me Microsoft compatibility.

You said it: "History". Exactly that. Those urls don't belong in 2011.
