I really need some help fast. I built a DNN site with the most current version 5.6.x and had the site built and ready to publish, but before the publish I told myself to BACKUP the site.

I backed up the site by coping the entire site folder and then connected SQL manager and attached the db and performed a backup. Detached the database and now when I browse to the url I get "This site is currently Unavailable" and if I browse locally on the server I get the install wizard. I really do not want to re-build this site from scratch and really need someone’s help fast!

Thanks in advance

If you've moved the backup to a different machine you may need to fix ophaned users - http://www.fileformat.info/tip/microsoft/sql_orphan_user.htm , if you were just backing up a sql express instance you need to drop the connection in sql management studio

Yes I was just backing up the site and database. I detached the database from the SQL express manager, restarted the SQL Express service, and restarted IIS in hopes that would fix the issue, but I am still having the issue. Is their something that I am missing?

Please see this older but still valid blog post by Shawn Mehaffie which explains why DotNetNuke was not able to connect to the database after you had attached to with with SSMS and how you can modify the web.config connection strings to correct the problem:

This is one of the reasons that I recommend never using the App_Data\Database.mdf when installing DotNetNuke and instead always create a blank database first.

Well I am learning and I will never use the app_data database again. However this did not solve my issue.

Am I able to create a new install along with a new database and perform a restore on the files and use SQL Express manager to create a restore of the database? I do have a good backup of the files and the database.

If this can be done can someone point me in the right direction?

Thank all of you for any and all help!
