I have read the post stating that ADSI Active Directory Provider does not use LDAP.  However, it is my understanding that ADSI is just an API wrapper over various providers and in fact ADSI uses an LDAP provider under the hood to communicate with the Active Directory.  That said, we are looking to use the ADSI Active Directory Provider to provide integrated authentication for an intranet portal for an organization which has a requirement that all LDAP traffic be encrypted via SSL.  I have searched around the DNN site but have not found any mention of this as a possibility.  Looking at the MSDN documentation for the System.DirectoryService namespace, I am guessing that switching the "Authentication Type" setting for the provider from "Delegation" to "SecureSocketsLayer" will do what we want but I am hoping that someone provide some clearer direction or insight.  Does anyone have any experience or knowledge in this area?

I think you should give "SecureSocketsLayer" a try. Ideally, it should work. However, there are other environmental issues that you need to be aware of: 1) AD Server (not the server on which DNN is installed) should have SSL certificate installed 2) The DNN server should trust the issuer of the server's certificate.

I see this was  a long time ago, but did you get this to work?  I too want to use the AD module for SSL Authenticating by changing the Auth Type from Delegation to SecureSocketsLayer.  I have a named certificate that I'm going to put on the site but am wondering before I do this, did it work for you?  Any complications?  I am wanting to just secure the users login, not the entire site.
