Alright, I am having a strange recurring issue.  Some people forget their user id's and passwords so they for some unknown reason are setting up another account on my site.  So, I kindly delete the previous user and assign the appropriate permissions to the new user they created.  the problem is that this new user does not appear to employ those permissions.  If I look at them in the user editor, the permissions are there, if I login as that user, I can not see the things on my site that a user with that permission should be able to see.  Any idea what's up with this?

Also, is there a way for me to undelete these original accounts that I deleted?  The users table isdeleted is set to 0 for the accounts.  I expected to see them = 1, but they are not.  The users do not show up in user manager any more, so I have no idea how it is that they are being marked as deleted in 5.06.01.  Can anyone help?

See this link for the coming solution (5.6.2) for "deleting users".

  • Enhanced user manager to allow users to be restored or hard-deleted

Yes, I have seen that post. But I have this problem today on a production site, and I can not install the beta version (5.6.2) in order to fix the issue. So, if anyone has knowledge of the inner workings of this so that I can restore my deleted user manually, I would be very appreciative.

Also, it appears that it is only the FORUM module that is not respecting the permissions. I added a test page to my site and required the same role to view it as my group in the forum. All the users in that role are able to see the page just fine. The user that created another account (who's original account I deleted) is also able to see the page, but still can not see the forums that require the same role. Everything about this users account is a mirror of the originally created account except his account name. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Alright, I found the solution.  There is a UserPortals table.  In there, there is an isDeleted column.  This must be set to 0 for the UserID and PortalID that you want to restore.  I don't know when the switchover from using the isDeleted column on the Users table to the UserPortals table happened, but as of 5.6.1 this is the solution.

I might also mention, that once I restored the user I had deleted, the newer user was able to see the appropriate forums once again.  This leads me to believe that the forums module is maybe using a display name, email address, or some other thing to lookup a users permissions then their UserName.  Very Bad, very bad indeed!

or more likely a depreciated function which gathers the users permissions and such.
