Hello Everyone.

I have downloaded and installed DotNetNuke_Community_05.06.02_StarterKit.vsi.   I can start a new "DotNetNuke Web Application Framework" project.
Here's the problem.  When I press Ctrl+F5 the build starts but fails. Here's the Output window:

------ Build started: Project: C:\Dotnetnuke\My Site\, Configuration: Debug Any CPU ------

Validating Web Site

Building directory '/My Site/admin/Containers/'.

Building directory '/My Site/admin/ControlPanel/'.

Building directory '/My Site/admin/Modules/'.

Building directory '/My Site/admin/Portal/'.

Building directory '/My Harvey Site/admin/Sales/'.

Building directory '/My Harvey Site/admin/Security/'.

Building directory '/My Site/admin/Skins/'.

C:\Dotnetnuke\My Site\admin\Skins\jQuery.ascx.vb(26,0): error BC30456: 'Framework' is not a member of 'DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Controls.DotNetNuke'.

C:\Dotnetnuke\My Site\admin\Skins\Links.ascx.vb(147,0): warning BC40000: 'Public Shared Function GetTabsBySortOrder(portalId As Integer) As System.Collections.Generic.List(Of Entities.Tabs.TabInfo)' is obsolete: 'Deprecated in DNN 5.5. Replaced by GetTabsBySortOrder(portalId, cultureCode) '.

Validation Complete

Looking at the line of code at fault I'm left scratching my head.

Any help appreciated as always.

Thank you.

Using VS2010 or VS2008 the problem is the same.

There is a certain law to posting. You exhaust all your ideas after hours of trying.  Then, you make your post.   5 minutes later you will discover your answer.

Instead of CTRL + F5  I opened the default.aspx and selected "View in Browser".  I have a working install now.  :0)

For others who may have a similar issue: The website code is compiled "just-in-time" when it is first visited following an application shut down. It is not currently possible to pre-compile the website code-behind files. Much of the DotNetNuke framework and the code of most modules is already compiled into DotNetNuke.dll and various provider and module assemblies.

 Hi William.
It was you in another post that tipped me off on this so thanks for your efforts.  It does however bring another concern of mine to the fore.

Why is it like this? Why is it pre-compiled?  Is DNN slowly moving away from true open source?  We here are starting out on a new web dev path.  We're very interested in using the multi-portal capability.  Now though we see there's Professional and Enterprise versions costing serious dough.  I'm concerned that we won't have certain features available.
What do you think?
:)

Ray, DotNetNuke library and modules are included in DNN install, upgrade and starter kit package being compiled into dll's, but source code is still provided in the source packages for the core and for the modules (Community Edition only).
