Leo, lists table stores all the values editable via UI in Host :: Lists and may be used by modules as well (e.g. for FAQ categories).

Sebastian,

I totally understand what you are saying; however, using only one table to maintain the website's lists doesn't seem practical to me. For large sites, or any site that utilizes large lists, this could become a performance issue.

I'm very new to using DNN, and so maybe I have no room to speak, but I have to say, it would be nice to see additional functionality to add a table and point the newly added control objects to it. Just my thoughts.

The more I work with DNN the more I will understand why it was designed the way it is.  So far I really like what I see.

Leo, of course you may create a control accessing a custom table, Lists table is just reducing the development effort, otherwise you need to create SQL Server table and stored procedures (CRUD) as well abstract and concrete data providers. The performance decrease should be minimal, since you may retrieve only the items per list.
