Regarding the Users and Roles module (in Community Edition v5.6.1):-

Is there a way to configure these modules so that those with module edit rights can only administer users that belong to a subset of security roles? For example, I've created a couple of new roles in my portal called SubAdmins and EndUsers. I want to provide SubAdmins the ability to create new users and be able to assign them to either the SubAdmins and/or EndUsers roles but not to be able to see users that belong to the inbuilt Administrators role or be able to assign users to that Administrators role.

If this is not possible is there a way to remove permissions from the inbuilt Administrator account so that they see the default User Accounts page and nothing else?

Thanks

I've asked something similar but have been replied by silence so I'm not hopeful that (without, maybe, an extra, paid, module) this will be possible.  I will be looking at writing my own code to manager certain groups to see if this is possible, manually, so I'll let you know if this is the case.  In a way I hope that this isn't possible via a module as this would mean that the user modification priviledges are secured to admin-only users, but I suspect that this isn't the case.  If it isn't it's rather worrying as then any module could, potentially, compromise the site security.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I know there's a free module available that works well with DNNv4 if it's any good to you. It's called User&Roles Manager and is available at http://www.effority.net. Unfortunately it doesn't install on v5.

Regarding DNNv5, there is a sugestion that this kind of thing is possible - see comment at 2009-11-12 01:48 PM posted at http://www.dnncreative.com/Forum/tabid/88/aft/21741/Default.aspx - however I don't have access to the deme (not being a subscriber). I had no problem creating my new SubAdmin role and adding the required user account module to a new page but no matter how I tried to configure things they get to see all users.

I'd apreciate if you could let me know how you get on if you go down the custom toute.
