I've upgraded from 4.9.5 up through 5.3.1.  I cannot get up to 5.4.4 / 5.6.2 without an error.  I even tried a few in-between versions.  The error is a non-descript "error occurred" initially.  Trying to work through it I updated any modules showing they needed it and then uninstalled the skapicture gallery and the simple gallery modules and then dropped back to the minimalentropy skin.

The error has now changed to this:
