Hi All

I'm sure that there is a simple method of doing this, but I'm not sure what it is! I would like to develop DNN 4 sites locally and then upload them to the web server once they are in order. What is the best way to migrate DNN portals from a local development machine to a proper web server? I am talking about moving the site files and database.

Many thanks,

Nick.

Just thought I'd post in support because I recently sent in a question on deployment and had no response.  I'm using the source version of 4.0.3 and would like advice on moving from a development to production server.

I also need to move a DNN installation - I have a test version of our new Intranet up at http://intranet/dnn - I'd like to move it to http://intranet/.

Any ideas on how to go about this properly so that I don't break anything?

You just copy your files to the new IIS virtual directory location, and change the permissions. You then need to backup the database and perform a restore. Webhost4life is the only shared hosting I've found that lets you do a database restore. Some will do it for you, or for a fee. It would be nice if there were a way to "publish" a dnn. There's really no great way of moving a site.

Has this actually worked for you?
