I decided to recreate my DNN495 development installation and upgrade and target the 563 level - I'd previously simply used the 495 and posted that to my websites, which was fine, but now's the time to do a general upgrade of the dev platform...

I copied everything from the 495 webspace to another directory, backed up and restored to another database, pointed the new space to the new database, changed the portalAlias table entry and ran it. All fine.

Upgraded the new site to 563, updated the .net framework to 4, changed the default editor to Telerik (nice...) and ran it. All worked when accessing the website directly through " http://localhost/DNN563

The problem came with the links between the Visual Studio dev and the website.
I copied the .sln to a new file and chenged all the references to the new solution space. recompiled and all worked fine.

When I came to debug [f5 from VS], the old solution continued to work OK, but the new one came back with
Domain Name Does Not Exist In The Database
The (local) website address is " http://localhost:50458/DNN563/ " and the PortalAlias is Localhost:DNN563, similar to the earlier DNN495
The earlier version continues to work OK through " http://localhost:50458/DNN495/ ". Both are running Visual Studio Cassini

Any ideas on what I missed??

... Duncan.

Try accessing the site using the url that works (http://localhost/DNN563), login as Host/Admin->Admin->Site Settings->Advanced->Portal Alias->Auto Add Portal Alias is turned On.
