Hi all,

I found this, so I thought I'd share it with the DNN community incase anyone has the same issue...

I had an issue where my site was taking in excess of 40-60 seconds (sometimes more) for the site to 'wake up' and post back to my browser.

Having searched Google for a good solution which would resolve this issue, I come across 'Application Pool Defibrillator'. To my understanding this isn't built for a DNN infrastructure, however, it works GREAT! Now my Intranet site returns within a few seconds!

I believe if your DNN site doesn't have any activity within 10-15 minutes (or so), the site is released from the Server memory and has to be reloaded when someone hits the URL. It's simple, once the Defibrillator is installed (I used the Windows Service version), all you have to do is enter each URL that you'd like the Service to ping within the configuration XML file (which can be as little as 1 minute between each ping) - that's it, you're all set!

An awesome little feature to have installed on your Server / DNN installation!!

Mcgill120: Thanks for the tip. Besides this, one can also play with "Idel Time-out" setting in AppPool. Default being 20 minutes, in which case the App will shut down if no requests are received in 20 minutes. Some people bump it to a higher number to ensure site doesn't shut down frequently. However, your technique will prevent site from shutting down AT ALL provided that service is running nicely.

I'm creating an Intranet for the company I work for, so we don't get a huge volume of hits but when a user does need to visit the site, they expect the site to return within a couple of seconds, so using the Defibrillator suits our needs very well! I've been using the Service for a week now and I have to say, I'm very impressed!

simply disabling recyle of the app pool after inactivity should provide you with the same improvement - I prefer to execute recycle once in the middle of the night instead.

I think you can sign up for master's free watchdog service. This will do the job if you are looking for a way to prevent asp.net to close the application due to inactivity. Just set it to visit your site every 10th minute or so and you are fine.
