Hello Events Module Team,

thank you again for a wonderful module, it is great.

I have a question, but as far as I can see, the answer is no but I want to ask just in case I missed something.

I was demonstrating the enrollment feature recently and I was asked whether it is possible to 'check in' or to somehow confirm attendance in the events module.

IOW, 100 people enroll for the event three weeks before but on the day or two days before the event, they confirm they will attend.  I suppose the Airlines call that check in, it means, I really, really intend to go.

In our case, they want to run a race, and it would be nice to know the real numbers they will have on Saturday morning at 08:30.

I did not see that feature in the DNN Events module and I cannot guess how I might do it without actually building a separate "Check In module" that would pull from the Events table.  I suppose I could do it, but I wanted to ask you if you have any suggestions first.

thanks in advance again for a great module,

Mark

Hi Mark,

You are right the module doesn't do this. A possible suggestion is to have two instances of the event. One for people to enroll against, and then close to the date create another one for people to 'check-in' against. If you were prepared to create security groups and add people to them, you could add people who enroll to a group that can 'see' a sub-calendar and have then add that sub-calendar to the master calendar such that the check-in event is only visible when they enroll. I also think you could use negative permissions to make the event that people enroll to disappear after they have enrolled. So:-
  • Calendar A - Wwith permissions to enroll given to all users excluding users in group 'Enrolled' - Create enroll event here
  • Calendar B - With permisisons to enroll given to all users in group 'Enrolled' - Create checkin event here

Put Calendar A and Calendar B in Master Calendar C (subcalendar settings) which is then on your enrollment page. When user enrolls in event in calendar A then put then in group 'Enrolled'. They then should be able to see the event in Calendar B and not see event in Calendar A.

This is a bit clunky and may not work for you if you have many events, because in effect you need two sub-calendars per event. You could achieve the putting people in security roles via a schedule process or a SQL trigger if your SQL is up to it.

Cheers
Roger
