Hi,

I tried upgrading my site from version 5.6.1 to 6 following the instructions on: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/W...

Everything went well except that after I finished, I could not login into my site. The Login and Registration links stopped working. It didn't even show the textboxes to enter login and password. (Yes, I checked the machine key in the config file was the same as before, and also cleared the cookies as suggested in other posts.)

After a lot of time struggling to make it work, I decided to go back to the old version I had saved. I deleted everything and ftp the old version back. Now the login and registration links show as supposed, but they do not work either. The textboxes for login and password show too, but when I enter the information it just stay there and nothing happens. I am getting this error:

uncaught exception: [Exception... "'Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: Could not load type 'DotNetNuke.Web.UI.WebControls.DnnTimeZoneEditControl' from assembly 'DotNetNuke.Web'.' when calling method: [nsIDOMEventListener::handleEvent]" nsresult: "0x8057001c (NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_THREW_JS_OBJECT)" location: "JS frame :: resource://firebug_rjs/net/spy.js :: callPageHandler :: line 796" data: no]

Help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

You likely got bit by .Net, IIS or browser caching issues during upgrade and the rollback.
Try these out and see if they help you:
1. Clear your browser cache and cookies
2. On the server open Windows Explorer shell to C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET and delete anything in the folders after these points:
\Framework64\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files
\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files

3. After completing #2 restart the AppPool under which the site is running
4. Restart IIS - Open a command window as Administrator at the prompt type in IISRESET

If you're using a Hosting Provider you'll need to ask their Support people for assistance.

if you want to revert an upgrade, you need to delete all files, replace it by the ones from backup and als roll back database. Please be aware, that database and file system always need to be "in sync"

Thanks Sebastian, restoring the database fixed it.

I could not try Ken's solution because GoDaddy doesn't allow those changes on a shared server.

Thanks again for the support.
