Hi,

I wish to build a site on my local machine then upload it our Internet Service Provider  hosted web server.
Is this correct way to proceed?

The web sever from my ISP is IIS + I have an SQL data base log in.
Where do I find the "How To" information to migrate the completed site from my local machine to ISP web host?

Or is it possible to install DOtNetNuke straight onto the ISP web host, build the new site while leaving our original dot ASP site in place until the new one is built?

If yes, where do I find the "How To" on this?
I have had a search for the above items but unable to get clear information.

Thanks and cheers

I have this article - http://www.mitchelsellers.com/blogs/articletype/articleview/articleid/204/pageid/106.aspx that talks about the high-level process for doing the migration. Hope this helps!

Hi Mitchel,

Thank you for the information and link I shall go and study.
Is there a way of installing directly to the ISP hosted sevefr and leaving the original site intact for the time being?

Is there any info available on installing DotNetNuke directly as our hosting provider does not offer any support or tools for installs of CMS programs etc but I did see a Plesk.html file that doesnt say much in the root folder.

Thanks again and I appreciate your time and efforts
Cheers

All you have to do is
  1. Create a MSSQL Database (you may have a Control Panel to do this),
  2. Download the DNN ..zip file from DotNetNuke.com
  3. Unzip the downloaded ZIP file and upload the files to your web server.
  4. Open a web browser and navigate to you site www.yourdomain.xxx, this will start the installation wizard
  5. Follow the steps, that's it.

Before uploading the make sure you delete any HTML file from your web server's root folder.

Hi Rashid,

Thanks for the information.
I was thinking that there may have been a way to install it on the hosted server but leaving the original site there until the new one is finished. As an example, Joomla has a "publish site" button for the index page.

Cheers
