Hello,

I have made a DotNetNuke web site in an test server, with DotNetNuke version 5.6.1. Now my DNN web site is ready for production.

My DB server is  under Windows 2003 server and have SQL Express 2005 installed. I place the DNN database in this server and I can access it via SQL Server Management Studio Express.

My web server is running Windows 2003 Server and IIS 6 where I moved my DNN folder. In the default web site, I created a new alias to DNN Folder.
The connectionString in the web.config file is : connectionString="Data Source=SRVDB\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=DBName;User ID=MyLogin;Password=MyPassword".

From the web server, I run http://localhost/DnnWebSite, I have the DotNetNuke installation wizard with the message "The Auto option has been disabled as the DotNetNuke Application cannot connect to a valid SQL Server database. You can continue to use either of the other two Wizard options and configure the Database settings at the appropriate Wizard step."

Where is the mistake? I hope you could help me !

Finally, I found the problem. It was the service "SQL Server Browser" in the DB Server which was not running.

I hope this post would help anyone !

if you want to use an attached database, you should not use default option, but custom and specify your credentials during install - otherwise you are using user instance database, which cannot be accessed simultaneously by your web site and SQL Server Management Studio.
