I thought I'd share this tip for getting better accuracy out of the Netism module if you're doing anything with GeoIP Targeting (visitor location). For example, if doing something like "Locate Dealers Near You" or something, this will provide much better accuracy on the location of *you*.

The Netism module uses the GeoLiteCity MaxMind database for doing the location lookups, which is a free database that gives a limited degree of accuracy.

If you need greater accuracy, MaxMind has different types of databases that can be puchased, and rise in cost as the location detail accuracy increases. In my case, I purchased a GeoIPCity database, which matched what I was looking for in accuracy.

Once purcgased, the database was simply renamed as "GeoLiteCity.dat" and copied (overwrote) the existing dat file in /DesktopModules/NetismMapExt.

We bought Netism Map Extreme and got very frustated with it cause support is absolutely inexistent. I asked for a refund and got no response from developer nor solution from Snowcovered (Dotnetnuke now) so we lost $89 in a malfunctioning module.

We tried to use custom templates but module went totally blank when the "Use Custom Tamplates" field is checked. We tried to contact developer by every posible way but they did not respond any mail or tickets. Ironically all user reviews on Snowcovered praise the excellent support they have.

I am very disappointed with Snowcovered/DotNetNuke for failing to protect their customers against these irresponsible developers.

I'll appreciate any help to make this module work properly and avoid lose our money.

Thanks a lot

Thanks Cliff, that tip just helped me out on a Netism 3.4.1 / DNN 6.1.4 combination.

If anyone finds that the popups are covered up by the map or markers, the following can be added to NetMapExt.css:

.ero { z-index:910 !important; }

Eric

Hi Eric,

My map popups are showing behind the module - I added this to NetMapExt.css but for some reason it fixes it in Chrome but not in IE:

You can see the problem on http://www.pokerdiy.com/find-poker-ga...

ps - I noticed the popup box when you are typing city names into the search is also behind the data - any idea what CSS that is?

Rodney,
In IE it appears that another style sheet from virtualearth.net is loaded, and that it overrides the .ero z-index mentioned above. So we need to be more explicit with our definition to prevent that. Try this instead:

div.ero-leftBeak.ero { z-index:1000 !important; }

On the search box text suggest, try adding this to the same style sheet:

.ac_results { z-index:1100; }
