I've hit an issue that has me completely stumped and is a complete showstopper for me. I'd really appreciate any help.

On my production server at, say, http://www.mysite.com I have configured a number of portal aliases, including localhost. I have also set the option:

The selected portal alias is the primary Portal Alias. All others will be redirected to the primary alias.

and point to http://www.mysite.com. This, of course, works fine on that server (it points to itself).

I need to get a copy of the production server onto a development machine - and that's where my problem exists. I have copied the web folder from the production server and also restored the database to the dev machine. However, I cannot work out how to configure the dev machine to NOT redirect to http://www.mysite.com. No matter what URL I use to access the dev machine I always get redirected to the production server. I even tried modifying the PortalAlias table to remove the reference to http://www.mysite.com then restarted IIS - the problem remains.

Of course, I can't simply turn off the option to redirect through the Admin menu - because I can't log on in the first place (because every page I request redirects to http://www.mysite,com).

So, this is really holding me up. How can I turn off the redirection on the dev machine.

Thanks.

Mark

In further news...

I found the following in my web.config.

    usePortalAlias="0,www.mysite.com,,Normal,"

I temporarily changed my production server to NOT redirect to http://www.mysite.com - and sure enough that element disappeared.

So, I removed that on my dev server, saved web.config - and yet each and every URL is still redirected to http://www.mysite.com.

I have no idea what is making this redirect happen. All I know is that I can't get to any URLs on my dev server.

Thanks.

Mark

Hi Mark,

I can't tell why this has happened. But I can share you a method to visit the website on your local dev server.

1. go to IIS, focus on your website, on the right operation bar, click "Binding"
2. Select the binding you have set to your website, click "Edit"
3. change the port to 80 and set a value for the host name (e.g dev.mysite.com)
4. Add "dev.mysite.com" to the portal alias table
5. Add this row to the "hosts" file of your dev mathine: 127.0.0.1 dev.mysite.com

Then you can access your website at the local dev mathine by http://dev.mysite.com

Or directly set www.mysite.com as the host name for your website, then you can skip the step 4.

There is another database table that holds a value "DefaultPortalAlias", in the field "SettingName", in this particular record where "SettingName" is set to the value "DefaultPortalAlias", change the value for the field "SettingValue" to the correct alias.  You'll notice the value for this is the alias that your website is currently redirecting to.
