I have just migrated servers. We scripted the database onto the new server and copied the directory that contained all the files for the website onto the new server, however we moved the files from .../portal/ on the old server to the root of the website on the new server. The web.config file has been changed to point to the new database, yet the website does not display - an error message comes up.

Is there anything that I should have done differently or still need to do? (I am using DNN 5.3.1)

500 (Internal Server) Error

Hi,

Just a couple of questions: Is IIS configured correctly? Did you add a new portal alias for your new temp address before backing up the DB? Is the .Net version the same? I don't think you can change the file structure like that. DNN uses the Portals folder to store skins and user files. I believe the 500 error indicates an IIS problem, but once you straighten that out you may run into other errors.

When moving sites from one server to another I've had consistent success using the backup module from Evotiva: http://www.evotiva.com/Products/DNNBa...

I have changed the setup on the new server so that the folder structure is the same as it was on the old server; the new server has IIS7 and .Net 4 as opposed to the old server's IIS6 and .Net 2.0/3.5, I have been told though that this should not be a problem as the newer IIS and .Net support the older versions.
Everything appears correct, yet I am still getting the 500 (Internal Server) Error.
