Hi all,

I'm interested in editing the default menu in DNN 6.1.2 or replacing it with a custom menu.

The menu I want to use has been created outside of DNN using static items within the menu.  It's a jquery menu and I want it the menu system within DNN to feed it and change as my website changes.

Would it be easier to change the default DNN menu to look like my menu or create a new one?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Just a few thoughts on this...

First, for what it's worth, you can put static items into the DNN menu. You do it by adding pages, but making those pages links in their advanced properties.

Second, you can put anything you want in a skin file. The reason that skins are installed like normal extensions is that they basically have the power of normal extensions. You can put custom code in there to do whatever you want.

Lastly, you can also write your own menu provider. I actually tend to use the telerik menu provider because I have their developer license, but, the point is, you can write you own. You can begin to figure out how by looking through the code for the DDR menu available online.

Hope this helps,

Mike

Mike,

I took a stab at customizing the DDR menu but the CSS wasn't commented well and I'm not an expert with CSS. Although I made progress, it wasn't close enough and that's why I attempted to look at writing my own menu especially since I have the menu built. I just need to know how to hook it in to the DNN menu.

Thanks,
Mark

As the DDR menu is templatable, i would concentrate at creating a template that renders the HTML you have in your menu now, then the existing CSS should work fine.

Tim,

That sounds like a good solution. How can I create a template for a menu?

Thanks,
Mark
