Has anyone found a way to successfully migrate a site from using Adequation Localization Extensions to DNN Content Localization? I have a DNN561 site that I want to upgrade to DNN6.2, but after attempting the upgrade, the site failed to start up. I suspect it is because DNN6 is not compatible with Localization Extensions (which are now obsolete).

My site has content in two languages, and my idea is to attempt to upgrade as follows (following the normal precautions):

  • uninstall Localization Extensions
  • move all pages below default language (en) from beneath it's dummy parent page
  • remove the other language dummy language page from the menu
  • check the site default language is set correctly
  • enable DNN content localization
  • enable the second language
  • manually migrate content from the defunct second language pages to localized versions of base language pages
  • delete obsolete second language pages

Can anyone see any gotchas with this plan? Or better, see a less laborious way of going about it?

Thanks in advance.

Looks like a reasonable plan. No matter what localization solution you decide to go with, I see no way around the manual effort involved. I'm sure with a bit of digging one might be able to come up with a db script or two that could do it all behind the scenes but that would probably take as much effort.

As with everything else DNN related, make sure you back up everything before starting! Twice if you are really paranoid like me. :)

How does the Adequation solution work? multiple pages (one for each language) I never looked into it. Preferred to use Apollo pagelocaization.

good luck!

Hi,
The list is too long to be good!!
There is always something not going ok.

Export the content of your modules.
Backup your site (always good to have a backup)
Delete your old site and Install a new DNN 6.1.4.
Import the content of your modules

This maybe looks like more work, however you know for sure that you start with a site without any mesh from your old site.
I had 2 months of hard labour, however my sites are now up and running without any errors

Ton, it certainly does sound like more work your way! There's no way I have 2 months to spare even if did I wouldn't be prepared to spend it doing that. Bear in mind that many modules don't support IPortable so I wouldn't be able to import content for many.

The blocking issue is getting the localized content from non-localized pages into localized ones, not upgrading the site to a newer version of DNN. That part is straightforward.

Thanks for the suggestion in any case.

Robert, Localization Extensions is obsolete now DNN has introduced content localization, although it was a good solution in its time.
