Greetings!

I am looking for a way to filter the members directory by role. I opened the module's setting and i saw a few display options as follow:

  • No filter
  • User
  • Group
  • Relationship

I clicked each one of the options but i didn't get any 'role filter' as expected. For instance, when I click 'Relationship' I get a dropdownlist with all the type of relationships to choose from. I'd expect that when I click the 'User' checkbox I'll get a list of all the roles in the system, unless there is another way to do it.

Any ideas?

thanks,

David

ive just had a look at the code and the "user" filter does not really do anything i.e. it does not show a menu to select some user value -and in fact when the values are retreived "no filter" and "user" end up in the same branch. I didnt work on this area but i suspect it was not 100% finished. - also as most of the work is a port of the ActiveSocial components which used their own tables for social groups (and did not use roles as a form of social group) then no role filtering has likely ever existing. Please log this as enhancement requests to support.dotnetnuke.com to ensure they get looked at (they may already be planned)

Hi Cathal,

Thank you very much for your reply. Yes I saw exactly what you are describing here and I am sure it is an error since the help tip for the filters states specifically that we can apply a 'by role' filter.

I used to work with the Active Social a lot. I remember that  this feature (filter by role) was included in their member directory and I think it was one of the most common requirement among Active Social users. I wish we could get Will's response to this issue as it seems like somebody has simply forgot to add it.

At least now I know that I am not crazy :)

Best,

David

David & Cathal,
I can confirm this was indeed a feature in Active Social. This seems like a basic & very useful feature that should be added back into the product (IMHO).

So the question now is whether i should develop this filter by myself or wait for DNN team to develop it. Obviously it's better to have it in the core but once again it'll be very hard to get dev schedule.
