Hi,We've been using DNN for a long time, but only as a CMS with modules we bought for specific requirements. We now have the need to develop custom web-based business applications, and DNN seems to be the starting point. As the manager, I don't know much about web development - and rely on my team to provide technical answers. Although we know that DNN provides a CMS framework that can go far, they don't seem to think it should be used for custom web-based business applications. But I am the optimist...I would like to get adivse from someone that has used DNN for custom web-based business applications - what where the challenges, how were they overcome and should we use DNN for this. Thanks in advanceThys Marais

Marais,
I have a client, who is using DNN successfully as base for their web frontend. They are using custom module to access their own database and have a custom solution for integrating their content with existing DNN modules (e.g. MediaAnt Gallery modules for displaying top item images). Feel free to contact me for further information.

Cheers from Germany,
Sebastian Leupold

As a framework for application development, I'd say DNN is excels in that space. There is very little you can't do in DNN. Your developers can use their existing skillsets as Visual Studio developers and whatever language they want. If you can do it in Visual Studio, most likely you can do it in DNN since it's web forms based. In addition, you save loads of time having to write commonly used functions, authentication, profiling, taxonomies, structure and menuing, JQuery, serialization, and so much is provided that is going to save loads of time having to develop those functions from the ground up.
