Hi David

Actually I like all your sites.

Yes - I am sure you are right - over time these features will evolve.
I do have faith in DNN - not used anything else since 2006 - but sometimes, like any faith, it gets challenged.

Also I have to admit that I too have an upcoming project that can make use of these features.

I suppose that I should also disclose an antipathy to most data mining social networks which seem to be full of mostly nonsense, shameless self promotion, malware, fictitious accounts and pictures of cats.  I suppose I am getting old.

sigh

Ian

Yes it does seem that way.

I'm a big fan of the social capabilities because I have some specific use cases / ongoing projects. Or I should say that I will be a big fan once we get a little more maturity and there are enough 3rd party apps integrating with member and group profiles. But I understand all projects definitely don't require them.

But can't you just delete the messaging and journal modules from the profile page? I do see that you cannot uninstall these modules. Not sure why that decision was made. But you surely don't have to use them if they are not needed. You can still have a profile and use that without messaging and journaling. Or am I misunderstanding the issue?

Hi Cliff

AFAIK: The messaging and other stuff is integrated into the profile system so there is no choice.
Essentially, that was my original question.

Hopefully someone from the dev team who made this decision will at some point provide some insight into this situation

The only work around as far as I can see is a quick trip to Data-Springs to spend $170 on a replacement - not a problem as long as the budget is there but if not then it's use it or look elsewhere at other frameworks.

I am still a bit cross about this situation - all other parts of DNN can be used or not as one wishes - not any more.

I suppose that I can hack around in the profile aspx pages and see what I can do but . .

In the past I have made very good use of  the excellent DNNWERK Users http://dnnusers.codeplex.com/  - this can be used as a reg or user data page but I am not sure how DNN6 complaint it is.

At the end of the day I can work around the issue - I just think it is hubris from DNN developers to assume we all want this social stuff all the time.

Ian
