I still don't understand the issue. I created a new blog site to take advantage of DNN 6.2. On the profile page I created subpages for messaging and journal and other stuff. I moved the messaging and journal modules from the main profile page to a subpage. But I could have just as easily hovered over the manage button for either of those modules and clicked Delete. That would remove that part from the profile page. So the Bio and other properties are separate module from messaging and journal. Like I said, you cannot uninstall but you can just delete the module. It's like the Feedback module that loads both a feedback form and a list of feedback for moderation. But if you don't want the list you can delete that part of the module or you can make it admin only. I think the same thing can be done to "not show" journal and messaging.

Oh Dear
 How embarrassing !

You are quite correct.  If I delete the side menu part of the default profile page and use the legacy skin object then I get the previous set of profile tabs.

I now feel officially dumb (and cannot now understand how I missed this).

 Wah !

 Thanks

another good idea is to create a new page called say "User Profile", hide it from the menu, then add the module called "viewprofile", then on the site settings, advanced settings page, change the user profile page to your new page.

this is just nice because it leaves the original page intact in case you ever want to go back to it
