I'm trying to install CTP 2 using SQL Express and getting stuck at the 1st page of the install wizard. I'm sure I could figure out a way to get it working but I figure there's value in reporting this as someone who's just trying to follow the steps...

  1. I downloaded the New Install version of  DNN 7 CTP 2
  2. I extracted the zip into a DNN7CTP2 directory under Documents\Visual Studio 2012\Projects
  3. I opened Visual Studio 2012 and then chose File -> Open Web Site
  4. I hit the run button
  5. I get to the first step of the install wizard and I fill out the UserName, Password, and confirm fields. I leave everything else as is and hit the continue button.
  6. After a bit I get an error: ERROR:Index #: 0
    Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider
    Class: 20
    Number: 2
    Message:

Also, there seems to be a styling issue with the dnnradiobuttons as all I see is the text.

I am not sure, whether opening DNN using visual studio has been tested yet. I suggest waiting for first published version "ready for production use".

Sebastian, I know you're busy and you answer a whole lot of questions, but your answer felt like a major cop out to me... but, whatever, I'm busy, I was trying to help with testing but apparently no one was interested in the feedback I gave since no one else responded.

I saw the beta came out yesterday so I decided to give it a try. I again tried running it under Visual Studio 2012 first... I got an error about the Core Dependency being compiled against a later version and I fixed that by changing the project to run against .NET Framework 4.0. But then I got to the new install screen, filled out the fields like I did above, hit submit and got the same error reported above. So, then i tried it against IIS7. Same error.

Like I said, I could probably troubleshoot and resolve this error but if I'm getting it, I would guess lots of others are as well. I'll try to look into it further soon.

Under IIS7, switching from SQL Express to SQL Server did resolve the issue. So the problem has something to do with SQLExpress. I've got SQL Server installed on both of the machines I've tried it on, maybe there's a conflict there. Regardless, the error needs to be better checked and/or handled.

odd, we do the majority of our testing against sql express and havent seen this problem. I did some quick googling and error number 2 shows as DataAccessErrorType.NetworkAddressNotFound, which doesnt make a lot of sense to me as sql express is local (so should not have any issue). Can you please try with a 6.x version to see if that works - also can you please look into the portals/_default/logs logfile to see if any issues are logged (I'd suggest setting log4net to All to capture additional diagnostics - http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/W...

Finally - please ensure you're running under integrated mode and not classic mode.
