Thank you Mark and Chris.

Boy, that was buried deep! Bearing in mind that a consultant set this up for me, I eventually found it under the IIS 6 management console (I am running IIS 7 on the server) and there was nothing listed under Administration \ Services. Well hidden, to say the least. With your help, I got there in the end :)

So, my next question is configuring the SMTP settings (in DNN). Yes, I would prefer not to use the local server. I use Office 365 and just configured DNN to point to an Office 365 SMTP server. Temporarily I used my own credentials in the DNN SMTP settings and the eMail went through just fine. But obviously I don't want to use my credentials.

What's the best practice here? Would I set up some "utility account" in Office 365 and use its credentials? I assume that these credentials are NOT the account from which eMails appear. I have various components (module code) that use SendMail and each passes a "From" field. The contents of that field are what I want to show up to the recipient of the eMail.

What's the best practice (including most secure) mechanism for configuring DNN to talk to Office 365 for sending eMail?

Thanks again.

Mark

you might use a dedicated account on Office 365, it just needs to be configured for relaying.
