I have been trying to get the gmail smtp information set up correctly as the host for this specific project does not provide that account with email services. When I test the settings, i get the "working" screen then no confirmation of either sending or not sending the test email. And no test email is received. The information i have entered is as follows:

SMTP server and port: smtp.gmail.com:465
SMTP authentication: basic
SSL: enabled
SMTP username: xxxxxx@gmail.com
SMTP pass: xxxxxx

*notes
dnn version: 6.1.1
my super user account's email address is valid and active

Any assistance or advice rendered would be massively appreciated.

I would suggest trying it without using SSL and no port/port 25 first to see if it is even communicating properly. If that works, then perhaps try using port 587 instead of port 465 with SSL enabled.

Thanks Ricardo. I tried with no ssl and no specified port. and got the following error:

"There has been an error trying to send the test email. The error is: There is a problem with the configuration of your SMTP Server. Mail was not sent."

I also get that same error when I use 587 with ssl enabled.

And you also tried no SSL with smtp.gmail.com:25 with no success? I may also recommend checking for any firewall rules on the server which could be blocking outgoing communication. Also make sure that the e-mail you are using matches up with the Host and Admin e-mails for the portal.

no ssl and port 25 yielded the same error.
all my email addresses are the same. I am going to attempt to open a ticket or something with the host company to make inquiries.
