I was getting this error as well, amoungst many others.  I tried the install so many times I eventually created a build script to clean VS 2k5 and DNN then rebuild.  I didn't do much research on this specific error but deleting and recreating the database resolved it.  It seems my failed installations had put DNN in an unrecoverable state.

Hope this helps.

Do not worry.  I do not think your DNN instance is unsalvageable.  There is a configuration in the newer version web.config that allows you to set (and allows DNN to search) for the object qualifier for database objects.  This is your problem.

The default for all objects is now set to dnn_.  This in effect causes DNN to search for all DB objects with the naming convention of dnn_XYZ.  (ex.  dnn_GetPortals)

SOLUTION:  Look for the folllowing in your web.config:

objectQualifier="dnn_"

simply remove the dnn_  value (thus blanking out the object qualifier).

Hope this helps!

See page 56 of the DotNetNuke Installation Guide.pdf

It also mentions deleting the dnn.config file from the /Install folder.  Though, only if attempting to carry out a fresh installation into a root folder where a previous installation of DotNetNuke existed.
