Somehow I managed to blow up my local test site, so i am starting over. I have done this in the past no problem but now I cannot get it to work. I cannot figure out what I have forgotten to do.

I have -

  • copied the files and folders from my live site to my dev machine and created a web site.
  • restored a backup of the remote database to my dev machine
  • setup host headers, portal alias and host file

Knowing that there are issues with user names I created a new, local user  and changed the connection string to local db & user

And the site gives me "Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider" from install/install.aspx?mode=none

I even created a separate 1 page project to test the connection string and it works fine. What could I be missing?

Thanks!!

Solved - I have no idea how I did it, I must have used the wrong archive of the site to copy on my local machine. I had the wrong version of the .dll's
