I using an older version of DNN (5) and I can no longer save anything in the Language Editor.

It was working perfectly while I was localizing some of the entries over the past week. But now I get a "A File Operation Failed. Please Check Resource File Permissions So Files Can Be Edited." no matter which of the keys I try to edit and save. Doesn't matter which language I'm editing either.

Is this something my host would have to fix?

check file system permissions, otherwise a malformed resx file might interfere, you may run resource verifier to identify.
