Hello Michael,

I am not Aware what all is installed on the Server of the Cloud (think it is on AZURE), so it could be that on several conditions issues comes up, that on a a clean server not happend.  AFAIK, the WIF (Windows Identity Framework) makes issues withthe Login, but it is not needed and not supported with DNN.  Also some other conditions can make issues, and of course any bug.  AFAIK, the issue with enabled popups is already fixed on 7.1.1!  So I think the last Version should be used.

Ok, have this solved on IIS7.

Issue is in the web config the <modules tag needs to be changed to the following:

 <system.webServer>
    <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true">

This fixes:

  • 404 on the get started page
  • 404 on all pages other than the homepage

Tried to install DNN 7.1.2 downloaded today from codeplex.

Didn't have the domain yet, so I made a host file change som that the domain pointed to our webserver.

Webserver: Windows Server Standard 2008 64bit build 6002 SP2

Ran the installation on server internet explorer vers. 9.0.8112.16421

iis vers. 7.0.6000.16386

Had the same issue with the popup right after install, which showed a blank page or 404 error page.

When closing the pop up, it just went right up Again...

The fix was the urlFormat="advanced" changed to "humanFriendly"

as posted earlier in this post.

there seem to be still issues with advanced url format. How did your domain name look like?

I gave up on trying to get 7.1.* versions to work.
I had the same issues as others in this post.
7.01.02 and 7.01.01 both  blew up after trying the installs 3 times each.
It urks me to see suggestions to change host settings to fix it when you cant get into host settings because the $$%^^%$@### popup keeps popping up...
I thought maybe the issue was with the unzip option in the Arvixe file manager possibly not doing a complete unzip but no- I FTP'd all the files and it didnt help.

FInally I installed  07.00.06 with no issues at all.

As with other install/update ossues I had in the past with other DNN versions, I always assumed I was doing something wrong but after seeing multiple others having the same issues, it usually comes down to a DNN issue and each time deleted a bit of my faith/trust in DNN.
It is obviously 100% an issue with the installs for those 2 versions.

The install on Arvixe is pretty straightforward:
This can be done in a matter of minutes if the version you install works.

  • Create a database (or delete existing then create for clean install)
  • Delete all files in WWWRoot
  • FTP the DNN zip file
  • In Arvixe File MGR, check the zip and click unzip
  • Navigate to the site and go thru the install wizard
