Yes, it is very sad what is happening here...

I had a major crash this week, and posted about it yesterday. Overnight there was a total of 18 views, 0 answers.

A couple of years ago, that would have been viewed hundreds of times by now and gotten a least a couple of suggestions on how to fix it. I guess I'm on my own now...

I'll have to talk to the school board to see if they are willing to purchase the enterprise version, that seems to be the only way to get consistent support now. Either that or we make the move to a different platform.

Or you could just start making daily backups so you can restore in no time if there's an issue..

Use Evotiva for daily automatic backups plus back up your (hopefully dedicated) server too daily.

I can't believe you pulled the "you should do more backups" card so quickly!

Please... I'm not a newbie. The entire server is backed up every 15 minutes with DPM. I just could not restore it with my upgrade scripts.

I did restore it this morning to an older version due to lots of complaints, but that is not the issue I was addressing here. Now I'm stuck at 7.1.1 and hopefully I can get the issues resolved before I try again.

Well, I can't believe you pulled the 'I'm moving to a different platform' card so quickly!

When you use a free product you're on your own, you can't expect or demand immediate assistance. The DNN team and the community members are pretty quick to respond though, I always get an answer within 24 hours and I'm very grateful for that.

If you had a recent working backup, you could've restore in 15 minutes then wait patiently until you get a solution posted.

The fact that you had to restore to an 'older version' shows that you were not up to date with your admin tasks. Blaming it on others isn't fair.

First of all, I am not demanding immediate assistance. The use of a community-based free platform is accepting that you will only get support from "the community". THAT is the point I was trying to make, there is little community support at all anymore. The only people offering any assistance now are the developers, and they simply don't have the time to chime in on everyone's posts. When the support from the community is gone, it is essentially an unsupported product, and you need to either be a developer yourself or move to a different platform.

That brings me to the second point, the decision to move to a different platform is not an easy one, and I did not jump to it immediately. In fact, I have not said that I would, just that it might be a possibility. I mentioned that it was a possibility months ago that I might be forced to move to either the commercial version or another platform "when I am no longer able to keep this system running". This particular install has been in place for almost four years now, and with each upgrade there are more and more issues arising. With approximately 200 portals on it now, it is not a small task to take the nuke-and-pave approach. I have made my boss aware of this situation, and we have been contemplating which direction to go for months now.

There is no blame being made on others, I am just pointing out that there is no "community" anymore. Which, I believe was the entire topic of this thread.

Silence does not automatically mean no-one cares, nor that there is no community. It's most likely that there are few people using AD authentication. It's completely outside my experience for example.
