I am a prospect for Evoq Social but I have my doubts reading the above.
There is no evidence that DNN is giving the same cold shoulder to people that want to buy their $3000 or $12,000 packages.
If for some reason you find their offering a good value proposition for your purposes, I wouldn't let this conversation turn you away.
I do however think that without some significant change of direction, you can expect to see more folks abandoning DNN when it comes to the community version. This would likely have a notable impact as far as fewer 3rd party modules, skins, etc. being available. I base this assumption on the fact that SiteFinity (a commercial only product) has a much smaller selection of 3rd party goodies. It only makes sense. Who would develop modules for a small or shrinking market.
As an example, I spent this very evening finding ways to get rid DNN off my servers and improve my site at the same time. To me it's a matter of principle and a lack of affordable, suitable offerings. From what I can see, I'm not alone.
