Going through Shaun's ASP.NET forum post "DotNetNuke 4.0.0 Starter Kit and Templates..." I have a couple of snags.

In the second installment, Shaun talks about module creation from the template. Where he names his module "Widget", the default name in my dialog box is "ModuleName." with a dot on the end.  What about this dot?  I left it out and named mine Widget as well.

The second thing is, and I'll quote the article here: "for development simplicity, you can also use the Module SQL script created using the Item Template. This script will be locacted in the DesktopModules folder and will have the same name as the value entered in the Add New Item dialog box ( in this case named Widget.SqlDataProvider )".  No file with this name exists.  I did find the 01.00.00.SqlDataProvider file and after ctrl+f5 copied/pasted the content into host/SQL, run as script with no errors.

Now, according to the forum post, "The Module should now be fully configured in your web application. To add an instance of the Module to a Page, you should browse to the Home page and select the Module from the combobox in the Control Panel at the top of your browser window."  The Widget module does not show up in the drop-down module list.

Any pointers, please?

Have you added the module definition to the hosting modules?
(the image with Edit module Definition)
The item will appear into Module Manifest dropdown list.
Just select it.. and press Install link.

Well, that worked like a charm!

Thanks very much for pointing this out, although in my mind the tutorial is a little misleading:

"In order to register the Module in your DotNetNuke framework, you need to add some entries to the database. This can be accomplished using the Module Definitions option in the Host menu or, for development simplicity, you can also use the Module SQL script created using the Item Template. This script will be locacted in the DesktopModules folder and will have the same name as the value entered in the Add New Item dialog box ( in this case named Widget.SqlDataProvider )."

I had taken the "for development simplicity" route...

Thanks again, now I can experiment a little and try to learn more!
