Built a site using DNN7.01 with webmatrix, SQLserver2008R2. Everything works fine on my local m/c. But when I publish to hosting site using FTP and DB backup, getting 404 error. The support support was good but could not figure out the root cause.

Alternatively, I zipped and moved the code to another development machine with same stack. Restore the DB but failed to open the site in webmatrix too. Same 404 error. I was able to see the databse tables in webmatrix without any problem. But the site wouldn't come up.

I was struggling to fix this for last 2 weeks. I really needs experts advise here.

Thanks
Ravi

When do you get the 404? What are you trying to access? Where is the site so people can take a look?

I get 404 error as soon as I click on http://localhost:5000 in webmatrix.

It works fine in original machine where the code was developed. But fails to open on transferred machine.
(Same issue when I published the site from local machine to hosting service.)

This is what I have in web.config file under connection string:
<connectionStrings>
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=dnn;User ID=sa;Password=******" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>

<appSettings>
  <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" />

Thanks for looking.

Ravi

What happened at the hosting provider?

When you moved it to another development machine did you set up IIS to serve the site on port 5000?

At the hosting provider,
1) uploaded whole site using FTP to httpdocs folder.
2) Sent database.mdf.bak file to provider and they restored for me.
3) updated the web.config file according to their instructions.

Site opens up with 404 error. Atleast tried 7-8 times but no luck. They are blaming something wrong with code.

Transferred code to another local machine(zipped the folder and extracted in 2nd m/c)
1) Restored the database.mdf into sqlserver and updated the web.config file(Refer above).
2) I get 404 error as soon as I click on http://localhost:5000 in webmatrix.

I haven't done anything with IIS. Please explain as I am new to DNN/website build.

Thanks
Ravi
