DNN 07.02.02. The parent portal does not misbehave but both child portals give me trouble.  The permissions for the pages on the child portals are cleared so that none of the security roles have permission to view the page because the child portals are not ready to go live. 

The problem is: when logged in as an administrator, if I use the menu to go to any other page, I get logged out and prompted immediately to log in.

When logged in as host, this does not happen. Switching to other pages happens normally. 

I have already tried the following:

  1. Changed skins from my custom one to the gravity skin and containers
  2. tried the hosted javascript library
  3. switched to the ribbon bar control panel
  4. assigned view permissions to one or more security roles, but not the "All Users" role.
  5. Tried the app pool with integrated pipes and without (.net ver 4)
  6. searched the internet for help too.

Incidentally, I noticed something else different. I often have to click a menu item a second time before it will do anything. It is as if the first click is ignored.

What can be causing this behavior, and how should I trouble shoot it?

Update. This strange behavior happens in both Chrome and IE 11 and on at least 2 computers and an iPad.

More information: I now have some success getting it to stop logging me out. I created an identical user in the parent web site as the admin user in the child site. Identical username and password. But I did not make them an administrator on the parent site. ( I prefer to avoid doing that.) Well, bumping from page to page works now. It does not prompt me to log in any more. 

But the problem still remains that I must most times click a menu item twice (not a double-click) to get it to go to that page.

Something is still amiss. Any help would be appreciated.!

DNN supports virtualised portals that each have their own user and roles, so platform needs to detect if a .net mapped call goes outside a portal request so it can determine if a change of portal has occurred and automatically expire the data (this does not apply to host as they have access to all portals).  If you see unexpected logouts when moving between pages for all users, except for the host user, this means that a .net mapped request is occurring that makes DNN believe a change in portal has occurred.

Most typically this occurs with some .aspx or .asmx file (often in the root folder, and often serving a harmless purpose like creating a thumbnail) - the best way to identify the erroneous request is via a http proxy such as Fiddler. Using it you can see the requests and responses and by clicking through can see when the forms auth cookie (.dotnetnuke by default) is expired, and see which request caused it and resolve that

To ensure your request (presumably to an aspx/asmx page) does not cause this, ensure you pass either the portalID or tabid (from which the system will determine the portalID) as part of your request, or rearrange the page structure so that it is within a code folder such as desktopmodules or providers.

I'm seeing the exact same behavior. Even with a fresh install of DNN 7.2.2. I created a child portal with a new user as the administrator. I can log into the child portal, but as soon as I try to access anything that requires a login, I keep getting prompted to log in (looks like the child portal is trying to authenticate from the parent portal only).

Definitely a major bug. Will post.
