thanks, I can confirm I have the following SQL 2008 settings:

GENERAL:
Login Name iis apppool\[myUserName]
Authentication: SQL (with a password set)
Default Database:  Master

SERVER ROLES:
Public: checked
sysadmin: checked

USER MAPPING:
MAP                DATABASE                                        USER
checked         [myDbName]                                     iis apppool\[myUserName]

DATABASE ROLE MEMBERSHIP for:  [myDbName]
db_owner:  checked
Public:   checked

but I still get an error saying :
" iis apppool\[myUserName] is not a valid name because it contains invalid characters error code: 15006 "

I have set up the web server as detailed in Chris Hammond video tutorial too.
We are using windows 2008 r2, SQL 2008, ASP.net4, and IIS7.

According to DNN Corp:
"This appears to be an issue if you use a different version of SQL Server management studio versus your database. I would recommend checking to make sure you are using the proper versions of everything"

On the SQL server management studio, we are using:
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 10.50.4276.0

Microsoft Analysis Services Client Tools 10.50.4276.0
Microsoft Analysis Services Client Tools 10.50.4276.0
Microsoft MSXML 3.0 6.0
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.50727.5472
Operating System 6.1.7601

However, as for comparing with the database...I am not sure what or where I need to check?

Mark, if you are using integrated security in your connection strings in web.config file, the SQL user needs to be windows account Login Name iis apppool\[WebsiteName]. If you prefer SQL authentication, use SQL account [yourUserName] with [yourPassword], both need to be specified in the connection strings.

firstly, I think the issue regarding :  "...different version of SQL Server management studio versus your database" as I mentioned in previous post is actually related to another problem and not my problem of :
" iis apppool\[myUserName] is not a valid name because it contains invalid characters error code: 15006 "

As for the Authentication - I would prefer to use SQL and use a password.
(however, I have not got that far yet and so I've not edited the web.config file at all yet)
