HI Andrew,
Once I deleted the files in those 2 folders and the Temp folder, the upgrade went smoothly.

Please be sure to check your permissions - if manually removing the files worked it means that the permissions are not valid (usually this means that you have "read" and "write" access but not "modify" -so asp.net cannot delete files). If you do not resolve these windows permissions future upgrades are likely to have the same problem.

it is always a good practive to remove all .zip and .resources files from /install/ subfolders prior to unzipping DNN upgrade package, as there might be a newer package be installed first and the upgrade throws an error, as downgrading is not supported (and wouldn't make sense).
