Not yet...
by the way, I have been having a hard time trying to answer your post.
The Rich Text editor seems to have some kind of a problem with my browser or antivirus or something.
I can only get to write if I select Basic Text Box, otherwise I can't seem to input text :/
I have investigated the issue and it has probably something to do with something blocking scripts on my side. Last time something similar happened with Analytics it was Avast's fault... :/
Tried on a machine running Clamwin, Firefox and Windows Server 2003 and didn't have any problem with the Rich Text Editor.

Going back to my problems, I thought it was better to upgrade gradually.. start from a "closer" version and then proceed upwards.
At this point my plan was to start the upgrade from 6.2.0 and then move upwards if everything worked and the site was left in a usable condition after the upgrade.

If there is a particular reason for going directly to that version then I can gladly comply :)

In the meantime though I just noticed I have developed another problem.
After the upgrade rollback everything seemed to be fine but I just noticed that my Register page is COMPLETELY BLANK!!
I'n not sure if this has to do with me, alas, mistakenly installing the iWebs reCaptcha module on a DNN version that didn't support it.
I was eager to stop the spam and I overlooked the minimum DNN version number - 6.2 when I was running 6.1.5

Unfortunately the page appears to be blank only for humans since this has not stopped the bots from creating bogus users :/

Any idea how I could restore my Registration page? Would downloading the 6.1.5 full version and overwriting the Registration page/control work?

The website is www.didmoad.org just in case you want to see what the problem is. The popup page pops up but it is completely empty.

I tested the page with another machine running Clamwin, Firefox and Windows 2003 server but the problem remains so it's browser, antivirus and SO independent.
Any help solving this problem will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Further Update.
Tried to upgrade to 6.2.0 - no luck.
The damn SiteSetting not available error is back which cripples my website beyond repair.

I think the idiots who concocted the stupid spam registration scam managed to trash my DNN installation for good.
If I roll back to my 6.1.5 installation my Registration page is blank and I keep getting an error saying the file /desktopModules/admin/security/Register.ascx does not exist... which is correct for that verision but why in hell is DNN looking for it in the first place??
Once I upgrade I get the Site Setting unavailable message... and all my options grind to a stop since there seems to be no known solution for this

... now what? :(

Further update.
Rolled back to version 6.1.5 once again.
This time I did NOT remove the reCaptcha module and my Registration page is still showing.
I decided to give the creation of a different registration page a try but... when I go to Host -> Extensions -> Users and Roles and I remove the flag from the Is Premium Module and hit the Update button I get the Object reference not set to an instance of an object Error... yet another one.

According to my Event Viewer ... oh... another one. Now when I try to look at the details of my hundreds of Red Event Viewer items I click on one and... nothing happens. This is a new one I didn't expect.

Starting to get really pissed off and getting NO ANSWER whatsoever.

If I browse through the log, filter the websites and come across one that is not packed full of red lines I click on it and.. miracle, it opens up.
When this happens I go back to the one with the red lines and... I can see the detail on this too.

I am officially puzzled but this is the detail of the error I get when trying to remove the premium module flag from the Users and Roles module

Starting to get really pissed off and getting NO ANSWER whatsoever.

I'd gladly upgrade to the last version if the minimum requirements for it were not so stringent.
I'd love to have unlimited space free of charge in order to make an exact replica of my website for testing each and every module installation or upgrade before touching the production installation but realistically that would mean more than doubling the hosting price for files and SQL DB!

I'd make a local replica if it were not for the sheer size of it! It would dake me a day or so to download the gigabytes of data from the remote server!

Anyone please...?? Any idea what on earth is going on?
Any idea how to stop the spam user registrations WITHOUT upgrading since it seems to be impossible for me?
Any idea how to fix the SiteSetting unavailable error after upgrading to version 6.2.xx? Any workaround i.e. update site settings from a table (which one and how)?

Thanks

Update...

I managed to restore the Database backup prior to reCaptcha module installation and travelled back in time by almost two weeks.

Apart from the work lost everything else seems to be in good order.
The Registration page is there and so i the Site Setting update procedure.

I have minimised risks excluding registration on all portals on which it was not strictly necessary and activated the built in captcha feature for Registration and Password retrieval for all those sites that can't do without new user registration.

I have backed up my Database and am about to upgrade the DNN files to the last available version: 6.2.9

Hope this works... otherwise I'll stick with the bogus registration and regularly delete the unauthorised users even though I've been told that since most of the bogus users have @gmail.com accounts this game could somehow affect site rank by associating the website with spamming - the welcome messages regularly bounce back and it looks as if I'm the one flooding the google mail server with bogus requests :/

Whatever... hope someone from the DNN comes out with a viable solution to stop these fools.

:/
