I'm not exacly sure when that setting got changed but it did not cause problems right away.

I think I changed it hoping to get rid of some of that clutter DNN puts on top of the page (the wiewstate) probably for SEO reasons.

I can certainly put up with a little clutter if this is the price to pay for a working installation.
