I don't know if this helps but I have found this error in the Event Log happening every time I try to log in:

I recopied the website over, this time with Robocopy instead of Web Deploy. This time got exact count on folder/files.

Had hoped that was the fix but no.

I've checked the database tables. This site was working fine in IIS 6 and the database is in the same place, no changes, so it seems that the issue is in the change in IIS environment.

I set all LoggingIsActive flags to true hoping to see something, but again all that is logged in the database is successful logins. I tried logging in with a bad password and got the typical invalid login attempt response.

But the original post continues to describe the situation.

Wondering if something in web.config is referencing something that isn't on the new server ...

This is actually happening both on a DNN 6.2.6 site as well as a DNN 5.6.3 site.

I have moved from Windows Server 2003 IIS 6 to Windows Server 2008 R2 IIS 7.5 in the past with a mixed collection of DNN versions, never experiencing this issue.

The issues in the original post remain in effect. Anyone have a clue what could be causing this?

Here's the problem as per original post:

Have moved a DNN 6.2.6 site from IIS 6 to IIS 7.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit.

It looks ok traversing through pages unauthenticated.

When I click on the login control, the login dialog displays. I enter username and pwd and log on ... and the page just goes back to a non-authenticated view. No edit controls, and the login link still says login rather than displaying my name. No apparent error displayed.

I look in EventLog table and what is recorded there looks like a successful login by the LOGIN_SUPERUSER. The log properties simply display the IP from which I logged in. Nothing that indicates error.

I checked Windows Events logs on the server as well and there is no entry regarding this.

This still unresolved - we are dealing with it by using other servers temporarily.

The only think I can think may be a cause is that we have sharepoint services (and some other apps) on the server which require certain server roles and services to be enabled. Are there any of these that might cause the cause of the behavior in the original post?
