Well, after upgrading the portal from 4.0.3 to 4.3.1 I was locked out with host and admin for good, of course the send password doesn't work (sends you bunch of xxxxxx saying that's your password!!!), so I just wiped out the portal and db and reinstalled just to realize that after the upgrade (for some misterious reasons) your passwords for host and admin users are reset, and to make the thinks worse, to the default password (host for host and admin for admin) they added dnn in front of them!!! So now the default passwords are dnnhost and dnnadmin. I would think that should've been posted first thing somewhere so the general public would've been informed beforehand, like, BEWARE: AFTER UPGRADE YOUR PASSWORDS FOR SUPERUSER AND ADMIN ACCOUNTS WILL BE DESTROYED PERMANENTLY!!! BUT YOU WILL STILL BE ABLE TO LOG IN BY USING PASSWORDS OF dnnhost and dnnadmin, WHICH YOU SHOULD CHANGE IMMIDEATELY.

Of course I'm just being silly here, just to lift up the spirit, but at the moment I was sooo upset, but it's in the past and I'm over it now ;)

Hope this helps to save someone's day...

All accounts receive an invalid password error.
Again, I kept more than one copy of my original web.config.
I checked and doublechecked that I correctly copied the keys.

Waldis,

I think there must have been some mistake during your upgrade process, because those passwords don't actually get changed during an upgrade!  The default passwords are applied during a clean install.  Maybe you had a new database set in web.config instead of the same database?

Also, just FYI the change of adding dnn to the beginning of the default admin and host passwords was to meet the new default minimum password length of 7 characters.  If the passwords for host and admin were shorter than 7 characters before the upgrade, and you didn't change the minimum length in web.config accordingly, that would create problems.  But again, those default passwords only come into effect for new installations, not upgrades.

I think that explains the problem I encountered, because I had 6 caracters in my passwords and I didn't change them, just copied the upgrade package over the 4.0.3, used new web.config with my db connection string, and everything upgraded just fine, but got locket out :(

Thanks for the tip, now when I'll decide to upgrade the rest of my portals I'll make sure I have changed my passwords to at least 7 caracters or edit web.config.
