Hello.

I am new to DNN. I recently "inherited" the maintenance of a website that uses DNN. Unfortunately,it was already broken when I took it on. Initially, my understanding is that the site was working fine. But, then a required DNN update message appeared and the site was no longer working. The old website administrator had initiated the upgrade, but it ended up causing problems. At that point, I understand an "emergency restore" was performed by the Go Daddy, the hosting service. That's when I took over.

The first issue I ran into when working on the problem was an an ASP.Net problem. I tracked that down to a directory permission issue on the ./dotnetnuke/App_Data folder. I set the permissions to that folder to "write" and the .Net messages went away. However, that's when I got the "DotNetNuke Error, An unhandled error has occurred." message. Interestingly, the website logo is appearing on the page, so something is working. Nothing else is displayed, however.

So, at this point, I don't know where to go to troubleshoot the issue. Any help or recommendations anyone can provide would be most welcome and appreciated.

Thank you kindly!

most likely, there are still issues with filesystem permissions.
another issue could be files from the upgrade still in place.
What is the highest version number of the .sqldataprovider files in /providers/dataproviders/Sqldataprovider?
does it meets highest number in Version table in the database?

Sebastian, thank you kindly for your post. Per your recommendation, I looked at the versions. 06.02.03 is the most current version contained within the folder. Perhaps this coincides with the botched updates? Another item to note is that this website has an application running on top of DNN. I do not yet know what the max version that package can run, but maybe the 06.02.03 would provide a clue. Again, thank you for your post and assistance. I'll be interested to hear what you think. Best regards, Greg

you may check Details of /bin/dotnetnuke.dll, to make sure, it is Version 6.2.3 as well.
If you plan to upgrade, I'd start with a small step - 6.2.9 shouldn't be too difficult.
Download files from dotnetnuke.codeplex.com, unblock the file (in file properties)
unzip hierarchically and copy over existing files. Browse your site and the upgrade
assistent should show up - otherwise browse /install/install.aspx?mode=upgrade

Sebastian, apologies for the delayed reply. I've been battling another issue concurrently and haven't had a chance to review your response. Thank you for your post and information. I will review your suggestions and will be back in touch. Thanks again!
