Well the original error message mentions "ControlBar$PageList$". That suggests it's something to do with pages.

I think you should look in your database at the page names, descriptions, keywords, etc. Look for columns that contain the invalid characters. WARNING in some places those invalid characters are allowed. You will have to use judgement.

I'd take a backup first. If you change your db to remove any of those character you MUST restart the site. That data is heavily cached.

Good thought. If you backup your database first then you can just clear all those columns. I don't have a full list of columns you will have to think. If that makes it work then you will need to recover and hunt the haystack.

The invalid characters are listed in your httpRuntime element. You posted this - requestPathInvalidCharacters="<,>,*,%,:,\,?"

I never seen any unusual characters, but I do it as you told me before.
