Hello,

Can someone please help me with an advice.  I am completely new to DNN.  I managed to install version 7.4 and I am able to log into DNN.  One of the first things a new user would try to do is add a new page and try playing with it.  Well, I can't do that because DNN returns an error: "A critical error has occurred. Please check the Event Viewer for further details."  Checking details in the logs shows the following:

AbsoluteURL:/Default.aspx

I don't seem to have a problem with DB connectivity.  My DB user is mapped to the DB login which is validated by the database as the AppPool Identity and the user has the db_owner role.  Anyway, I was able to install DNN with these DB parameters and all tables were created.

 What may be the culprit?

Thanks a lot to everyone who can share views.

Do you have a site with portalID = 0 in your DNN?
There is a known issue in DNN 7.4.0, if the otiginal first site is missing.

Sebastian, thank you for replying.

I am not clear yet about DNN concepts, so I am not sure.  Can you tell me where I can check?

In site management's Home Directory I see Portals/1

On the file system go to the /portals/ directory and see if you have the following

_default
0
1

I am not sure, what Chris is heading at, because file System directories are not relevant for this issue.
I suggest using Host > Website Management and check for a site with ID 0 (HomeDirectory = /Portals/0).
If ths is missing, DNN 7.4.0 is failing. Easiest solution would be waiting for DNN 7.4.1, where it will be fixed.
Users of my TurboSQL scripts (https://dnnscript.codeplex.com) will not be affected, because I included a fix.
if you Need it separated, please let me know.

Sebastian Leupold
