it is not the eventlog table, but the exceptions table, which was added in DNN 7.3.x.
I suggest upgrading from 7.1.2 to 7.3.4 and continue to 7.4.1 (or 7.4.2, which should be released later this week with a ton of bug fixes).

Cheers from Germany,

I went on the suggested path, and I'm at the latest 7.4.2. Unfortunately I still get the same Internal Server Error and Welcome to your website popups when I open any page.
I see 500 (Internal Server Error) in the console for the following:
/DesktopModules/InternalServices/API/GettingStarted/GetGettingStartedPageSettings
/DesktopModules/InternalServices/API/GettingStarted/GetContentUrl
/DesktopModules/InternalServices/API/GettingStarted/CloseGettingStartedPage

Apparently the welcome popup is causing the problem. It always shows up, even if I check the box that I don't want this. Where could I set in the database to hide that? Or any other idea?

There's no EnableGettingStartedPage in the HostSettings table so I tried the first option and I added this to appSettings in the web.config but it didn't make any difference:
First I tried to add the False as specified on the DNN Wiki page but this threw an error.

Please let me know if you have any other idea about how to fix this?

did you unblock downloaded upgrade packages (in file properties) prior to unzipping all files contained?
