Seems you already did that :) But I think the real reason is somewhere else, this was just to get around the issue faster and hopefully the real fix done as well.

I have been able to reproduce this issue.


This bug will only occur if the user clicks on the verification link in the email AND a 2nd tab opens in the same browser from which they launched their original site registration
This looks like some sort of caching or cookie issue.
If I copy and paste the link into a different browser OR I clear the History from the browser with which I initiated the registration I don’t get any errors and am able to log in.

If you instruct your users to copy n' paste the link from the email into a different browser than that which they used to register then the link *should work*. This is what I did in testing to get around the 500 error
