Hello Experts,

I was at 'DNN_Platform_07.04.02' I used the upgrade method to get there.  Today I tried to upgrade to 8 using  'DNN_Platform_8.0.0_Upgrade' which was downloaded on 2/11/2016.  I copied the production DNN folder before doing anything.  Then I pasted the 8.0.0 upgrade package over the old folder/file system and then went to the install page and logged in.  The upgrade messages showed no errors but I couldn't find any log files. (I did click on the go to the website button first and then before it redirected I clicked on the show log files button so maybe that is why there were no log files loaded)   I went to the website and got a message something like 'a module failed to load' on all the pages that I looked at  (it didn't tell me which module) .

I jumped into the backup folder and did a copy and then pasted everything into the production DNN install folder.  Everything pasted fine except a 'lock' file.  I skipped that file because it wouldn't go. I then restored the database file.  I then went to the website url and the website came up fine.  I went to the login page and there is no form fields and no login button.

I did notice that on the upgrade information description it says '(no module packages)'

I guess I would like to be able to login if possible and then to be able to upgrade at some point  if someone knows what might have gone wrong and how to correct my mishaps.

Any Ideas?

Regards,

Chris

did you try restarting the web site and clearing local browser cache?

Thanks for the suggestion...

I just stopped the App Pool using IIS; it produced an error when I tried to restart it so I rebooted the server and then I was able to restart the app pool with no error.

I came to my local machine and cleared my cache and tried the web site again.

It still goes to 'https://.../Admin/Login/tabid/220/Default.aspx?returnurl=%2f'

On the page there are no login fields and no login button.

please check Admin > Site Settings and make sure, the "Login Page" is set to a page with an Account Login Module on it.
Also make sure, "unauthenticated users" have access to the page and get displayed the module.

Sebastian,

I really appreciate you help on this.

I found the error in my ways...

After the failed upgrade; I copied the contents if the file system backup that I created; pasting it all into the root web app folder.  Today; I first stopped the IIS web app.  I then deleted the entire contents within the Web Application folder.  I then copied the contents of the backed up folder I made placing it into the empty production Web Application folder.

Now I am still one version behind; because I received module loading errors after the upgrade attempt on all pages that I tried.  I am suspecting maybe the 'skin' or maybe the 'html editor module' as begin the cause of the error.

I went into the admin area for the 'HTML Editor Manager' module and it is set to 'DotNetNuke.RadEditorProvider'
I went to the extensions page and I do not have core extensions that are showing as needing an upgrade.

I will be sending off a message to my skin provider to ask if there are any compatibility issues with the skin in DNN version 8.0.0

Regards,

Chris
