I changed the user to have ownership of the dbo schema as well, and then when I connect ... I've tried it two ways ... when I type simply "\Verin" in the server name field (the SQL Server instance is named), I get "Database connection error

Number: 87" The source is the .net SQL Client. And I'm typing in the correct user name and password, with user defined authentication as opposed to integrated. If I enter ".\Verin" in the server name field with all other database information the same, I get the error about my selected database user not having the dbo permission. What in the world am I doing wrong here? Thanks          

Indeed I am aware of both these things, and I do believe that I enabled protocols TCPIP for both client and server. And, the instance is called "Verin" because the server itself is. I decided to name the instance after the server, rather than after the database (I've got three different databases for three different and totally unrelated web sites). The exact error I get without including the . in front of the \ in the instance name is follows:

When I do include the dot and have everything else the same, I get the message about the user not having dbo permission.
