Hello,

We have dnn 7.04.01 and showing critical update in top section. So i tried to upgrade and download latest version 8.0.4.

After unzip files i opened browser and click to upgrade...when it reached 63% its showing error as illegal path . Then it stucked there, i waited for 5 minuet and no result.

How can i recover it? Need to upgradr any between version?

Recover? By restoring a backup.

There is a suggested upgrade path (http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/sugge...), but it does not say anything about upgrading from DNN 7 to 8.

You should not do this upgrade before testing if all your extensions (modules, skin, providers...) work on DNN 8 as there have been some breaking changes.

Happy DNNing!

If you made a backup of your DNN installation before doing the upgrade, you'll want to revert back. Then, you'll want to try doing the upgrade again using a copy of the installation. Make sure that you have "unblocked" the zip file and then extract the files again.

If you have not made a backup ... you'll want to look through the upgrade logs to identify the exact error. Depending on what it was, fixing the upgrade may be easy ... or difficult!

There should not be any real problems going from 7.4.1 to 8.0.4, except for modules that may require upgrading. But they should not have caused the error. But, I'd need to see the exact details before really making a statement.

The moral of this story at this point is: ALWAYS MAKE A COMPLETE BACKUP OF YOUR DNN INSTALLATION BEFORE DOING AN UPGRADE.

The second moral is ... don't do a live upgrade, almost never.

Thank you for your comments.

I had the back up and I revert it back. So my site is working properly. After that I created test site and will do any upgradation there only.

I will try to follow both of your suggestions. Thank you

make sure to unblock downloaded upgrade package in File Properties, prior to unzipping the files contained.
